Newsletter May/June 2024
Sacraments: Congratulations to the pupils who received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion last Saturday. Many thanks to all the staff and parents who helped to make this occasion so special. A special mention to the school choir who performed so beautifully and to the PA for providing the treats afterwards.
School Committees:
Student Council- The Student Council have been busy wrapping up the year and are currently preparing a presentation to inform the Board of Management of what they have been doing during the year!
Green Schools- A huge well done to all those who participated in the Bord Na Mona Upcycling competition. It was fantastic to see so many creative pieces coming into school. Unfortunately, due to a very high standard of entries across the country, we were not selected as a finalist school. A special word of thanks to Amelia and Zara Quiqley from 6th class who kindly donated their creative piece to the school which is a lovely addition to our front door. A special thanks to Fergal Joy and the members of the Green Schools who planted beautiful pots and hanging baskets for the front of the school recently.
Wellbeing- The Wellbeing Theme for May and June is Be Active. For May’s Wellbeing Wednesday, the Wellbeing Committee, together with the Active Committee, will create an obstacle course for all classes to enjoy. The Wellbeing Committee will work with Ms. Ivers and Ms. M. Doyle to create a music festival for June’s Wellbeing Wednesday.
The Cúinne Ciúin (Quiet Corner) continues to provide a space for all pupils to come to read, colour or play board games.
Sport:
Rackard League- Well done to our victorious Rackard League Camogie team who won the Roinn A Final in Wexford Park last week. The girls played against a great Blackwater team that never gave up battling until the end of the game. Rathnure played brilliantly throughout the field from throw-in. They all worked together as a team led by Captain Kate Higgins. We are delighted to have the Rackard League Cup back in our school which hasn’t been here since 2011! A special word of thanks to the team mentors Susan Stafford, Róisín Murphy and Micheál O’Neill for all their work with the girls’ team throughout the year and to Dean Wright and Damian Quigley for their work with the boys’ team.
Mini 7’s– Both our boys and girls hurling and camogie teams are through to the semi-finals of the Mini 7’s competition that will take place over the next two weeks. We wish them all the very best of luck.
Lunchtime Leagues- Lunchtime leagues are still ongoing and will be finished in the coming weeks. There is a very high standard during games and there has been huge improvements by all players.
Athletics-Well done to all the pupils that took part in the School Athletics in Enniscorthy Sports Hub. Pupils competed across a range of competitions including sprints, high jump and long jump. Unfortunately, due to the poor weather conditions the relays didn’t get to take place. We are very proud of all the pupils for their great efforts and congratulations to Faye O’Connell on taking silver in the 400m sprint, Aisling Ní Niadh was placed 3rd in the U10 sprint final winning the bronze medal. Mikey Kennedy also took silver in the high jump and Sophie Mahon who won bronze in the long jump. Well done to all involved!
